Parks Teams Up with Public Works to Talk Natural Lawn Care
On Thursday, September 18 Jeff Burgess, Supervisor, Parks and Facilities and Karina Richters, Public Works Environmental Coordinator will outline techniques for maintaining a green lawn without the use of pesticides. The free workshop begins at 7 pm.
The workshop will be held at Gino Marcus Community Complex, 1168 Drouillard Rd. It will also focus on the importance of protecting water through responsible use of chemicals.
“We will explain alternative lawn care practices,” explains Jeff Burgress, “ that are easy to follow and help us protect our ground water and grow lawns without pesticides.”
The lawn care workshop is part of the Parks and Recreation public education program on pesticides. A second free Natural Lawn Care Workshop will be held on Thursday, October 16 from 7-9 pm at Gino Marcus Community and Customer Care Complex.
Windsor introduced a pesticide by-law in 2006. A complete pesticide ban is expected in 2009. It is supported by the Windsor-Essex County Environment Committee (WECEC), a group of environmental-related organizations that meet monthly to ensure the ongoing health and stability of our local environment.
